Woman with Dental EmergencyDental Emergencies Happen…

Here’s how to handle it.

The dictionary defines an accident as an “unplanned event.” When that “unplanned event” occurs in your mouth, it can be an unsettling experience. The team at this office understands. We’re committed to being there for you in case of dental emergencies.

It’s important to remember that there can be significant differences between a problem, an accident, and an emergency. Never ignore warning signs just because they seem minor or endurable. But thankfully, not every single one needs to be classified as an emergency.

When a true emergency does occur, the best advice is always to remain calm as you seek treatment. Remember that it is not life-threatening, the pain is temporary, and you’ll make it through this. Just visit our office and we’ll soon have your teeth back into great shape in no time!

Evaluating Dental Emergencies

  • Knocked-Out Tooth. Emergency. Call immediately. Re-implanting works best if done within 30 minutes.
  • Painful Infected tooth. If accompanied by fever and swelling may be an emergency. Call ahead to us for a pre-evaluation.
  • Loose crown, bridge, or temporary. A problem, though usually not an emergency. Call us and schedule a regular appointment.
  • Broken Denture/Partial. Not an emergency—because it will require dental lab work to restore. Call for a regular appointment.
  • Blow to the mouth. Call us. It may be serious, or not so bad. Broken fillings. Usually, this can wait for regular office hours.

Remember: whatever the problem, if you think it’s an emergency—so do we!
